How to Volunteer

Becoming a Volunteer Counselor HQ Counselor

In the words of one of our volunteer counselors, volunteering at HQCC is an "awesome experience."

  • You get to join the staff of one of the oldest continually operating 24 hour counseling centers in the country!
  • You will gain skills and insight that improve your personal life.
  • You will learn from and form friendships with people within the staff whom you never would have met without volunteering.
  • You can feel great about helping kids and adults who turn to us.

Spring 2012 Volunteer Counselor Training:

The Spring 2012 training starts in early February with information meetings in January. Please attend one of the following Info Meetings to learn more about HQCC and our volunteer counselor training program:

  • Thursday Jan 19th 6 -  7:15pm First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont
  • Wednesday Jan 25th 6 -  7:15pm at Lawrence Public Library Auditorium, 707 Vermont St

If you have any questions or are unable to attend either of these meetings, please contact our Director of Volunteers.

We hold two training programs each year We always hope to have lots of people of varied backgrounds who really enjoy listening to other people. No previous training or experience is required!
    1. The process begins with an information meeting where you will learn about HQCC, the training process, and what it's like to volunteer here. We usually hold multiple info meetings, but you only need to attend one.
    2. If you liked what you heard, you can complete and turn in an application.
    3. After turning in your application you may be invited to an interview.
    4. Successful candidates will be invited to join our training program!
